If I ever see Bill Engvall in person, I will choke him to death.
For a basketball fan, it's become almost impossible to avoid this idiot on television. He has a new "family comedy" on TBS, and since numerous games are aired on another Turner station, TNT, the promos for his travesty are shown ad nauseam.
Out of all the unfunny clips shown lately, there's one in particular that has me yelling at my set. Bill and his TV wife are kissing while their teenage daughter walks by. As the girl is walking out she says, "If you're gonna do that in public, be younger. And not my parents!"
Cue uproarious canned laughter.
Aside from all the television clichés that exist in this one small sample, the joke just doesn't make any sense. They're not in public. They're in their own house, and they're not doing anything other than the typical TV peck kiss. I keep wanting Bill or his fake wife to shout, "And guess how we became your parents? We fucked. We fucked and fucked and fucked right on that table where you eat your breakfast. Does that bother you? Well maybe you should go find a job and an apartment and move on out of this 'public' setting that we pay for, huh?"
Yes, that really makes me mad. I don't know why. Probably because it's mind-numbingly stupid and it's being forced down my throat every time I watch a playoff basketball game. To add to my madness, TBS' tag line is the phrase "Very Funny". Except that it's not. Not at all.
Hopefully I'll be spared too much pain and this show will last as long as Bill's Blue Collar Comedy partner Jeff Foxworthy's show. But of course that was on network TV and this is cable, where Tyler Perry is king.
Sigh.
